1 killed, 1 wounded in freeway shooting in Diamond Bar – Orange County Register

0 44

A man was killed and a woman injured when a suspect for an unknown reason started shooting at their car on the southbound 57 Freeway near where it merges with the 60 in Diamond Bar late Tuesday night, Aug. 1, authorities said.

A pickup truck also came under fire.

The white Hyundai Sonata carrying the victims ended up more than 30 miles away near a home in Costa Mesa, said Officer Joseph Davila, a spokesman for the California Patrol. It is unclear why the car continued on to Costa Mesa; at some point the driver called 911.

The man was a rear passenger. The woman, sitting in the front passenger seat, was treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound to a leg and released, Davila added.

The Sonata’s driver and the occupants of the truck, a Toyota Tacoma, weren’t wounded, the spokesman said. A Tacoma occupant also reported the shooting, at 11:23 p.m.

The Sonata was possibly targeted, Davila said. The CHP hadn’t found a suspect yet and didn’t have a description of the suspect or the vehicle.

Costa Mesa police referred all media calls to the CHP.

For the investigation, the CHP shut down the transition roads near where the shooting occurred for four hours.

The CHP asked anyone with information about the shooting to call them at 626-338-1164.
