Actor Aamir Khan has donated ₹25 lakh for the flood-affected people of Assam, state’s chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared over a tweet. Taking to Twitter, the CM wrote, “Eminent Bollywood actor Amir Khan extended a helping hand to the flood-affected people of our State by making a generous contribution of ₹25 lakh towards CM Relief Fund. Assam has been reeling under devastating floods for the last few weeks. Several other celebrities including actor Arjun Kapoor, singer Sonu Nigam, and producer Bhushan Kumar have also donated to the CM’s Relief Fund.
“Empathising with the flood-affected people of Assam, renowned singer Shri Sonu Nigam contributed ₹5 lakh to CM Relief Fund as assistance to our relief and rehabilitation measures. My deep gratitude to him for his concern and act of benevolence,” Assam CM tweeted on June 21.
A day earlier Himanta Biswa Sarma had tweeted, “Acknowledge with gratitude the contribution of ₹11 lakh to CMRF by Shri Bhushan Kumar, film & music producer and CMD of @TSeries, with Shri Rohit Shetty’s efforts. I appreciate his concern for #AssamFloods. The donation will aid our fight against floods.” He had also thanked Ajun Kapoor for donating ₹5 lakh to the relief effort in the state.
As per news agency PTI, 21 lakh people have been affected by the floods in the state. The death toll due to this year’s floods has increased to 134, as per a bulletin issued by Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
As per the report, the overall flood situation in Assam showed signs of improvement on Tuesday with most of the rivers showing a receding trend. A total of 2,254 villages in 61 revenue circles remain affected by floods, while 1,91,194 people have taken shelter in 538 relief camps.
