Chaotic 911 emergency call from scene of Alec Baldwin Rust movie shooting tragedy released

0 101

Audio from a chaotic 911 emergency call sheds more light on the fatal shooting of a cinematographer on the set of the Alec Baldwin movie Rust.

Baldwin accidentally killed young mum Halyna Hutchins when he fired a prop gun that allegedly contained live ammunition rather than blanks.

Court records show he was handed the gun and told it was “cold”, meaning it should not have had real bullets loaded.

No one has been charged over the fatal incident during a rehearsal at the Bonanza Creek Ranch outside Santa Fe as the local sheriff’s office continues its investigation.

But audio of the emergency call placed after the shooting suggests crew members were not immediately aware of the severity of the incident.

A woman who identifies herself as a script supervisor makes the call, telling the operator: “We have two people accidentally shot on a movie set by a prop gun. We need help immediately.”

The operator then tells her to say on the phone and goes on to ask if the injury was caused “by a real bullet”.

“I cannot tell you that. We have two injuries from a movie gun shot,” the woman replies.

The female caller then explains there are two people injured.

“We were rehearsing and it went off and I ran out,” she said. “We all ran out. They were doubled over … and the camera woman and the director …”

The female caller then appears to become overwhelmed by the situation and a new male caller takes the phone.

“I have a protocol of questions I need to ask if you can just answer them the best you can. OK. Are they completely alert?” the operator asks him.

“Um Yeah they are alert,” he replies.

The operator then asks what part of the body has been injured.

“I’m not sure, I’m not in there,” he says.

He then goes on to say he thinks there is “one wound on two individuals”.

From there the call becomes more fragmented, with the operator unable to get clear answers to her questions.

The weapon mix-up has grabbed worldwide attention with the investigation probing the role of rookie armourer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, 24.

She had recently finished work on her first project as head armourer, she said in a September podcast interview.

“I was really nervous about it at first,” Gutierrez said of working as head armourer on the set of the movie The Old Way, starring Nicolas Cage.

“I almost didn’t take the job because I wasn’t sure if I was ready, but doing it, like it went really smoothly,” she said in an interview on the Voices of the West podcast, which is dedicated to the Old West.

“It’s really cool … really badass way to start off a really long and cool career, I’m hoping,” Gutierrez added.

Baldwin, meanwhile, was pictured meeting with Hutchins’ husband Matthew and the Hutchins’ nine-year-old son.

The three were seen embracing outside a hotel in Santa Fe, New Mexico, before the trio went inside.

It follows a statement shared at a candlelit vigil for Hutchins on Saturday in which Matthew called his wife’s death an “enormous loss”.
