“Geordie, garden designer Paul Bangay and I recently re-roofed the summer house with new shingles, and restored the herbaceous border in line with a 1990s design,” says Charlotte.Credit:Armelle Habib

The home

Marnarnie, a grand weatherboard home set on 16 hectares in Mount Macedon. Built in 1890, it includes a pool, grass tennis court and garden house.

Who lives here

Interior designer Charlotte Coote of Coote & Co, with husband Geordie Taylor, a nurseryman, their daughters Sybil, 9, Francesca, 7, and Daphne, 6, plus Bobby the Labrador.

What we did

After initial painting, furnishing and decorating, says Charlotte, “last year we converted an unused garage into a large country-style kitchen, powder room, flower room and drying room”.

“I love looking out to the morning light on the mountains from our bedroom.”

The ’hood

“It’s a sensory overload – I adore the clean mountain air, and its earthy, fern-like aroma, the sound of running water, the way the trees move, the sound of the birds in the daytime and the frogs in the evening.”

Future plans

“To redesign the west wing into a significant suite, with a bedroom, bathroom and dressing room overlooking the summer house, pool and garden.”
