Chicago fast-casual açaí bowl chain Deep Purpl is arriving in San Francisco, reported the San Francisco Business Times. The chain’s first two restaurants outside of Chicago are opening in SoMa, on the ground floor of 55 New Montgomery St. and at 345 Spear St.
The New Montgomery Street location, which previously housed a Sushirrito, is on schedule to open the second week of August, with a possible soft opening the week before, Deep Purpl founder Gabriel Fleury told SFGATE. The Spear Street location, which is inside the Hills Plaza business center (home to Google’s San Francisco office), will most likely open in late September.
Deep Purpl was founded in 2020, and has seven locations in the Chicago area. The chain sells prettily layered açaí bowls with toppings including fruit, chia seeds, granola and nut butters, as well as fruit and protein smoothies.
Fleury explained that he decided to expand Deep Purpl to the Bay Area because of the area’s passion for health foods, as well as his personal connection: He is a UC Berkeley alum.
“We’re going to be bringing a lot of different smoothies and customizable açaí bowls, which they don’t have a lot of in the San Francisco Bay Area,” Fleury told SFGATE. “… I studied at UC Berkeley and got to know the area very well, so I thought it was a good chance to expand.”
