Trae Robertson, 28, called the worker a ‘p*ki’ and threw two bottles at him as he left work

A father-of-one who racially abused a Tube worker before cutting his head open with a glass bottle has been jailed.

Trae Robertson, 28, began picking on the unnamed victim for no apparent reason as he headed home from a late shift at King’s Cross St. Pancras Underground Station in central London last May.

He followed the worker away from the station, calling him a ‘p*ki’ and repeatedly threatening to attack him.

Other staff saw the commotion and came over to their colleague but Robertson pulled a glass bottle from his pocket and threw it at him.

It narrowly missed, but he then launched a second bottle which smashed over the worker’s head.

The victim suffered deep cuts between 3 and 5 inches long to the head and neck and needed 10 stitches.

As well as anxiety and nightmares, the incident also caused him financial losses as he was on a zero-hours contract and unable to work for weeks.

After his arrest, Robertson, of no fixed address, answered ‘no comment’ to all police questions but later pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Judge Recorder Michael Wood KC said Robertson had an ‘appalling record including a number of robberies, minor violence and a vast number of dishonesty offences’.

Jonathan Green, defending, said his client described himself as the ‘the dumbest smart guy you’re ever going to meet’ who had suffered violence in his own life and was ‘determined to change’.

The judge said Robertson had produced ‘the best’ letter of apology he’d seen but sentenced him to three years and four months in prison.

He told the defendant: ‘Your partner is a saint. You now have a young daughter. You’re not going to do her much good as a father if you keep committing offences and ending up in prison.’
