A couple say the happiness has been sucked out of their marriage after last-minute cancellations saw them sleep at an airport.

Kyle and Cheena Cliff’s wedding getaway to Cyprus was extended by two days after easyJet grounded their flight home at the last moment.

After two frantic days rushing from emergency hotels to the airport in a desperate bid to get home, the Dunstable, Bedfordshire, couple got on a plane to Edinburgh Airport.

The 10-person wedding party, including young children, slept overnight at the Scottish travel hub, making beds on the floor.

“This has taken all of the good out of the experience,” Kyle, a barber, told the Mirror.

“It has put a massive stress over our heads. We had to borrow money to get home. It has taken all the happiness out of everything. It has been ruined.”

Kyle, 30 and Cheena, 32, tied the knot at a beautiful ceremony in Cyprus on May 30 in front of a close group of family and friends.

What had been a dream getaway until that point took a regrettable turn when the couple, their four kids, and three other family members arrived at Paphos Airport and discovered that their flight was cancelled.

With no easyJet representatives on hand to tell them what to do, Cheena called the budget airline’s help-line, only to be put on hold for an hour and then hung up on.

After several more hours’ effort to speak to someone, the easyJet lines went dead at midnight, Kyle claimed.

“We were left in Paphos Airport with no money and no accommodation,” Kyle said.

“We had to borrow money to pay for our accommodation from friends and family in the UK. We were kicked out of Costa Coffee at the airport and left wandering around trying to figure out what to do.

“My partner broke down in tears. My mother-in-law and her partner were tying to sort her out, while trying to keep the kids calm.

“We had a three-year-old with us. It was a nightmare.”

After checking into the cheapest hotel they could find, which Kyle described as “horrible”, the couple continued their efforts to get tickets for another flight the following day.

The eventually got onto a plane the day after, although getting home required them to go via Scotland, which included a six hour stay overnight in the airport.

“Me and my family were very upset and distraught,” Kyle said.

“I suffer with extreme anxiety and depression, so I found this experience very hard to bear. The way easyJet has treated everyone is disgusting.”

A spokesperson for easyJet said: “We are very sorry that Kyle and Cheena Cliff’s flight from Paphos to London Gatwick was cancelled.

“We notified customers directly and provided hotel accommodation and meals where required. Our customer service hours and hotel accommodation sourcing have been extended to support impacted customers and help get them to their destination as soon as possible.

“Nonetheless we fully understand the disruption this will have caused to their plans and we are very sorry for this. We will be in touch with them to talk through their options and reimburse any expenses they have incurred.”
