Ebanie Bridges posts picture of huge swollen hand that requires ‘intense’ surgery following successful world title defence against Shannon O’Connell
Ebanie Bridges may have recorded an excellent recent victory over Shannon O’Connell, but it came at a cost.
Last weekend, Bridges beat fellow Australian, O’Connell, in a grudge match with eighth round stoppage to defend her IBF bantamweight crown.
The build-up had been fiery, with O’Connell describing Bridges as a ‘skanky stripper’, which most likely inspired the ‘Blonde Bomber’ to throw her punches with a little extra venom.
This proved successful in terms of claiming victory, but it has not left her hand in a good state, as Bridges posted a picture on Twitter of her hand looking extremely swollen.
The photo came alongside the caption: “Booked in for surgery on my hand this Friday.
“A lot of my camp was done with one hand. A lot of my sparring only using my left hand.
“But there was no way I was pulling out of that fight cos I knew I could batter her with 1 hand if needed & I wanted to but now time to sort this.
“It’s a pretty intense surgery,” Bridges continued. “They take bone from my hip and fuse my joints together.
“Bit of a lengthy recovery… but I am no stranger to injuries. Lol.”
It has not been all bad, however, since the fight, as Bridges had the opportunity to meet a fellow world champion in Tyson Fury.
‘The Gypsy King’ was in Bridges’ adopted home of Leeds and she could not resist the opportunity to get a photo with the number one heavyweight in the world.
Bridges posted the picture to her Instagram and said: “Heard the big man ‘The Gypsy King’ Tyson Fury was in Leeds today so had to go visit.
“What a vibe. So much charisma.”
