Eddie Hearn has outlined his plan for Anthony Joshua to rise back to the top of the heavyweight division.

The Chairman of Matchroom Sport and boxing promoter, Hearn, appeared live on talkSPORT on Tuesday morning.

After an epic clash with talkSPORT’s Simon Jordan regarding the Conor Benn debacle, conversation moved on to Anthony Joshua.

Jordan suggested either Daniel Dubois or Joe Joyce as potential future opponents for Joshua later this year.

“I think Dubois is miles away in terms of the elite guys in the heavyweight division,” Hearn responded.

“But, I think Joyce is right there. I think he’s a very tough man to beat. Those guys have sparred thousands of rounds, I’ve seen it and it’s brilliant to watch.

“If you asked AJ about fighting Joe Joyce, no problem at all.”

More realistically, however, Hearn then revealed his plan for Joshua for the rest of the year, saying: “I think he has three options; Deontay Wilder, Tyson fury and Dillian Whyte.”

“I don’t think there’s any disgrace off the back of the Usyk fight going Jermaine Franklin, Dillian Whyte and then Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder.

“That’s a hell of a 2023.”

Before any of that, Joshua has an upcoming fight against Jermaine Franklin on April 1 at the O2 Arena in London.

This will be Joshua’s first fight not involving a world title since 2015 and he is coming off the back of two losses against Oleksandr Usyk.

Asked whether this is make or break for AJ, Hearn replied: “Absolutely. I’m a promoter and I’m hyping the fight, but at the same time I am nervous.

“He’s coming off two defeats, albeit to Oleksandr Usyk, we saw emotionally the position he was in because he wanted to win so badly.

“He’s got a new trainer and he’s taken himself to Dallas with a very small team to work his absolute socks off.”

Hearn continued: “He’s lost two fights on the bounce, he’s no longer a world champion, of course his star has fallen.

“But, he’s a man who in my opinion is an elite heavyweight, he’s top three heavyweights… who wants to comeback and regain his heavyweight world title.

“He’s the purest individual, he’s the hardest worker, he makes more sacrifices and commitments than any athlete I’ve ever seen and he’s my mate, so I’m so pumped for his return.

“I want him to go in there and show people how good he is. I want him to believe in himself, I want him to enjoy life and I want him to appreciate what he’s achieved and I want him to go in there and make a statement.”
