After nearly 20 years on the air, Entertainment Tonight Canada is coming to an end. Corus Entertainment, which produced the nightly show, cited a “challenging advertising environment” as the reason for its cancellation.

“After more than 18 incredible seasons, we are ending production of Entertainment Tonight Canada. The costs of producing a daily entertainment newsmagazine show in a challenging advertising environment have led to this decision,” read a statement posted to the company’s website on Wednesday.

“We recognize the impact this decision has on the dedicated team who have worked on the show and we thank them for their meaningful contributions over the years.”
The show was hosted by Cheryl Hickey since its 2005 inception and featured a variety of notable on-air personalities, including Sangita Patel, Carlos Bustamantes, Keshia Chanté, Morgan Hoffman and Roz Weston.
Fans and notable names from across Canada reacted to the news with sadness on social media.

“The ET Canada team was made up of kind and creative people, fiercely proud of the work they did and the Canadian stories they told. I was honoured to stand shoulder to shoulder with them at some of the most significant cultural events here at home and abroad,” former Your Morning and eTalk co-anchor Ben Mulroney wrote on Instagram “Our television landscape is diminished today, but the people who made that show great will soldier on and continue to do great work to the benefit of viewers across Canada.”
Country star Brett Kissel called the news “incredibly sad.”
“Some of my favourite memories have been with your incredible team. You were family to me,” the Drink About Me singer wrote.
Musician Karl Wolf also lamented the cancellation.
“Noooooo!!!! Ahhhhhh damn I loved the whole team I’ve been on so many times thank you for all the support and love you’ve shown myself and the @lonewolfmusic2020 team!”
