A Disneyland light pole fell over Monday morning on Main Street, injuring three people, officials said.
The Anaheim Fire Department arrived at the park just before 8:30 a.m. for a report of the fallen lamppost, Jon McClintock, a spokesperson for the department, told SFGATE. Fire and rescue officials said one person was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries and two people suffered minor injuries. The two individuals with minor injuries were treated at the park and released at the scene, McClintock said. Officials were not able to release any additional information about the three injured park-goers.
Fire crews believe the pole fell over because of high winds in the area, McClintock said. A Disneyland spokesperson confirmed to SFGATE that gusting conditions are believed to have blown over the light pole. A high wind warning was issued by the National Weather Service for several Southern California cities, including Anaheim, until Tuesday at 10 a.m. Northeast winds are expected to reach 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 75 mph, the weather service said. The strongest winds are expected to occur today.
Photos from Disneyland News Today show that the pole fell into a flower bed near the main Disneyland flagpole in the middle of the town square area. Early Monday afternoon, the entire left entrance from the turnstiles into town square remained closed off, and the area where the post fell was off-limits to guests. Cast members were directing visitors around the right side and away from work crews in the area.
