Scottish star Frankie Corio was left stunned after Hollywood actresses Cate Blanchett, Florence Pugh and Michelle Yeoh commended her for her efforts in “Aftersun”.

The young actress, from Livingston in West Lothian, was photographed with the trio on the red carpet at the 43rd annual London Critics’ Circle Awards on Sunday.

Blanchett, Pugh and Yeoh were pictured congratulating the 13-year-old Scot for her accomplishments, reportedly dubbing her a “rising star”.

Newcomer Corio picked up the young British/Irish performer award for her role in Aftersun, while co-star Paul Mescal was on hand to accept debut Scottish filmmaker Charlotte Wells’ Philip French award for breakthrough British/Irish filmmaker.

The critically-acclaimed drama, written and directed by Wells, follows Calum, played by Mescal, and his daughter Sophie, played by Corio, through a holiday in Turkey.

It comes after Mescal was nominated for his first ever Academy Award for best actor for his role in the film last month.

Tar and The Banshees Of Inisherin were the biggest winners of the night on Sunday, picking up three and five awards respectively.

Tar was named film of the year at the May Fair Hotel ceremony, while Oscar winner Blanchett was named actress of the year.

It marks the third time Blanchett has won the award, after Elizabeth in 1998 and Blue Jasmine in 2013.

Michelle Yeoh was presented with the critics’ top prize, the Dilys Powell award for excellence in film for her role as Evelyn Wang in the action epic Everything Everywhere All At Once.

It comes after the 60-year-old Malaysian actress received an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe for best actress in a musical or comedy motion picture for the film, about a Chinese immigrant who finds herself responsible for saving the multiverse.

Meanwhile, Florence Pugh was named British/Irish actress for her body of work in 2022, alongside Bill Nighy who picked up the British/Irish actor of the year.
