Anyone with a Freeview TV or set-top box in their living room would be wise to follow the latest advice from the popular telly service. A swathe of changes have just been released including new channels, more content along with an update to the planner but users will only receive the update if they retune their screens.

“On 23 August 2023 some broadcasters are making important changes to their channels,” Freeview explained in a blog post. “You will need to retune to update your TV and keep your channels and TV Guide up to date.”

So what’s new and what has changed?

Firstly, there are two new channels as part of the changes including That’s 90s (channel 86) and Zee World (channel 278).

Next up, eight channels are moving position on the planner which means they no longer sit in their usual position, these include That’s 60s, That’s 80s, That’s TV and Together TV+1.

HOW TO RETUNE YOUR FREEVIEW TV

• Press menu on your box or TV remote control

• Select ‘set-up’, ‘installation’, ‘update’ or a similar option. If you’re asked for a password, the default code is ‘1234’ or ‘0000’.

• Select ‘first-time installation’ (sometimes called ‘factory reset’, ‘full retune’ or ‘default settings’).

• Press ‘OK’ if your equipment asks if it’s OK to delete existing channels and then your retune should start automatically. If you’re prompted to, save the channels that are found.
