This week’s episode of My Mum, Your Dad had viewers on a rollercoaster of emotions and the Gogglebox sofa critics were no exception.

During Monday’s edition of ITV’s latest dating show, Roger, 58, who suffered immense heartbreak just 18 months ago when his wife died from melanoma, had his first date with Caroline.

Roger – whose daughter Jess nominated him to be on the show – bravely discussed the difficulties of losing his late wife.

He reduced Caroline to floods of tears as he spoke about how Joanne had breast cancer four years ago, but she recovered until she had a spot behind her ear while they were on holiday.

Roger then shared how one night his wife was incredibly tired and fell asleep on the sofa, and she didn’t really wake up again.

Reacting to Monday’s episode, the stars struggled to hold back the tears.

‘You’ve just got to do what makes you happy,’ said Izzi Warner while wiping tears from her eyes.

Married couple Steve and Sue were also in shock.

‘You honestly never know what’s round the corner.’

Before they reached the emotional scene the cast branded the contestant a ‘silver fox’ and even compared him to Great British Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood.

The cast also had a laugh when bombshell Janey made her entrance.

‘Oh look at him [Roger] he’s giving her the eye,’ laughed Julie Malone

‘See you’ve just got to press the right buttons with men,’ joked Steve.

The hit reality programme, which features the likes of best friends Jenny and Lee, sisters Ellie and Izzi, and The Malone Family, has picked up plenty of awards over recent years, including the factual award at the National Television Awards 2021, and reality and constructed factual award at the Bafta TV awards the following year.

The celebrity spin-off, meanwhile, has seen the likes of Rylan Clark, Roman Kemp and Shaun Ryder transform into TV sofa critics.

Gogglebox returns next Friday at 9pm on Channel 4.
