Helena and Johnny have collaborated on screen in the past in films like Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Alice in Wonderland. Both actors are friends and frequent collaborators of filmmaker Tim Burton.

In an interview with The Sunday Times Magazine, when the British actor was asked whether Johnny Depp could have a chance at resurgence in Hollywood after allegations of domestic abuse, she claimed, “Oh, I think he’s completely vindicated. I think he’s fine now. Totally fine.”

Helena also added her opinion on cancel culture saying, “Do you ban a genius for their sexual practices? There would be millions of people who if you looked closely enough at their personal life you would disqualify them. You can’t ban people. I hate cancel culture. It has become quite hysterical and there’s a kind of witch-hunt and a lack of understanding,” she said. The actor referenced Johnny Depp’s highly publicized defamation trial that took place earlier this year against ex-wife Amber Heard where The Pirates of the Caribbean actor had sued the Aquaman star, alleging that she had defamed him in a 2018 op-ed about domestic violence published by the Washington Post.

Johnny Depp was awarded more than $10 million in damages, whereas Amber Heard went on to win one of her defamation counterclaims and was awarded $2 million. When asked whether this case was an instance of the “pendulum of #MeToo swinging back”, Helena saidAmber Heard tried to ‘jump on the bandwago’ and ‘be the poster girl for’
