Ian Wright makes grim Manchester United score prediction for Chelsea fixture

0 65

Ian Wright believes Manchester United could be dealt another heavy defeat when they face Chelsea this weekend.

United head to Stamford Bridge amid the imminent arrival of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager, after the former RB Leipzig boss came to an agreement to take charge at Old Trafford for the remainder of the season.

He won’t arrive in time for clash against the Premier League’s leaders though — meaning Michael Carrick will once again be in charge after leading United in Europe in midweek.

The former midfielder led his side to a 2-0 win at Villarreal to secure United’s progression to the knockout stages of the Champions League on Tuesday, and now he’ll be aiming to arrest the dismal league form that saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sacked as manager.

Former Arsenal striker Wright, however, believes that United could be in for another difficult afternoon on Sunday, with Chelsea in fine form following their 4-0 win over Juventus in midweek.

“We’re dealing with the same backroom staff, so yes you might get a bit of enthusiasm going because it’s Chelsea,” the Arsenal legend told Optus Sports’ The Kelly and Wrighty Show.

“But we’re talking about a Thomas Tuchel Chelsea side that is going to be ruthless with what they do. They’re not going to change. You’re going to have to deal with Reece James and what he can do.

“Unfortunately for Chelsea, (N’Golo) Kante might not be fit. But the way they play in the system, if you’re organised, and you stay in your shape, you’re probably going to break through the Manchester United side.

“I don’t know what they can do that’s going to curtail and stop Chelsea or slow them down for them to then impress themselves on Chelsea.

“I really do feel this could be another one of those games where it could be another big one [defeat] for them again.”
