Joe Fournier has now officially appealed his elbow knockout defeat to KSI.

The PBA (the commission who sanctioned the fight on Saturday night) have told talkSPORT.com that they have invited both sides to make their cases over the controversial KO and will be conducting a review this week.

A final decision will be made this Friday at the latest.

The controversial moment came in round two as KSI rocked Fournier with a thunderous right hand.

Fournier backed off as a result, but KSI pursued him and went to throw a follow-up right hook.

However, he accidentally missed with the hook and instead followed through to land an elbow on his opponent, which sent him crashing to the canvas.

The referee did not appear to see this though as it happened in a flash and so Fournier was counted out and KSI was awarded the win.

In the aftermath, Fournier made it clear that he intended to appeal and has now done exactly that.

The PBA’s statement to talkSPORT.com read: “Following the contest between KSI and Joe Fournier on Saturday 13th May 2023, at the OVO Arena in Wembley, London, United Kingdom, we can confirm that we have received a request from Mr Joe Fournier to seek a review/appeal of the decision whereby he was stopped by the referee in the second round of the contest, in favour of KSI.

“We have invited representations from each contestant and their representatives before the matter is reviewed in line with our rules and procedures.

“We are also seeking legal counsel as to the issues involved to ensure all matters are dealt with properly and fairly while seeking to uphold the integrity of boxing.

“Any decision or otherwise on the matter will be made available to the contestants on or before 4pm GMT Friday 19th May 2023.”
