Julian Nagelsmann makes Ralf Rangnick prediction ahead of Manchester United arrival

0 96

Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann believes the impending appointment of Ralf Rangnick at Manchester United will be “incredibly good”.

Rangnick, as reported by the Manchester Evening News on Thursday, is set to become United’s new interim manager on a six-month deal, before stepping into a consultancy position for the following two years.

United, who travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, confirmed when revealing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s exit that they would like to bring an interim manager to take the team through until the end of the campaign.

And though they hoped that they would be able to lure Paris Saint-Germain head coach Mauricio Pochettino to Old Trafford mid-season, the Reds saw their first approach for the Argentine knocked back — meaning they went back to the original plan of bringing in an interim boss.

That man will be Rangnick — although the club have yet to confirm it, with caretaker boss Michael Carrick remaining coy on the matter at today’s press conference.

Bayern boss Nagelsmann, however — who has worked with Rangnick at RB Leipzig in the past — has offered United plenty of encouragement about what they may expect from the experienced German, backing him to bring positive vibes to Old Trafford.

Nagelsmann said: “[Rangnick] will do Manchester United incredibly good, the whole club.

“His power, the way he plays football, it’s totally different to what’s been going on there in recent years.”

Rangnick, who has been working as the Head of Sports and Development at Russian giants Lokomotiv Moscow since July, is known very well to Nagelsmann because of their connections with RB Leipzig.

Although he managed Leipzig on two occasions, Rangnick also worked in a non-coaching role for the Red Bull franchise, overseeing the progress made at both Leipzig and Salzburg.

Nagelsmann is understood to have been inspired by Rangnick’s coaching methods, meaning it is no surprise that he is confident United have made the right decision to turn to the experienced Backnang-born German.
