London firefighter who ‘filmed women in showers’ arrested

0 81

The man, aged 32, was arrested on suspicion of voyeurism and inciting girls under-13 to engage in sexual activity on September 1, the Metropolitan Police said.

The offences are alleged to have occurred between 2020 and 2021. He has since been bailed.

The firefighter has been suspended from the brigade while investigations are ongoing.

An LFB spokesperson said the brigade cannot comment on allegations relating to individual members of staff.

“We support the Metropolitan Police Service with any investigations it may have,” the spokesperson said.

“Allegations relating to criminal conduct are taken extremely seriously and, if upheld, will result in dismissal for gross misconduct.

“Staff that are arrested for serious offences are suspended while investigations take place.”

Officers are said to have found footage of women in showers, the Sun reports, while a colleague allegedly told the newspaper the man’s arrest sent “shockwaves throughout the fire service in London”.

A damning independent report released in November 2022 found the brigade “institutionally misogynist and racist”.

Accounts ranging from women being groped to people having their helmets filled with urine feature in the wide-ranging review, which examined the culture at England’s biggest fire and rescue service.

The Fire Brigades Union acknowledged the “extremely alarming” report, saying there is “no place for such behaviour or attitudes”.
