A murderer who conned two elderly people into changing their wills and killed one of them has finally paid the families after selling his flat.

Ben Field was jailed in 2019 for life for killing Peter Farquhar, 69, in 2015, and manipulating Ann Moore-Martin, 83, in Maids Moreton, Buckinghamshire.

He convinced the pair of them to make him a benefactor of their wills.

A flat bought with money obtained by deception was sold to settle a court confiscation order.

Thames Valley Police confirmed the original order of £146,561.02 had been ‘varied down’ due to the sale price, fees and money spent on repairs ahead of the market sale.

A spokesperson told the BBC: ‘The flat was sold and this money used to compensate the victims.’

A confiscation order of £124,665.03 has been paid in full and ‘monies have been distributed as part of the agreed order to the victims in this case’.

Field, who was 28 at the time, was jailed for life for the murder of Mr Farquhar but was found not guilty of killing Ann Moore-Martin.

His crimes were recently dramatised in the hit BBC one show The Sixth Commandment.

Field admitted duping the pair and drugging Mr Farquhar to ‘torment’ him at the time but denied involvement in both their deaths at Oxford Crown Court.

He took advantage of Ms Moore-Martin’s vulnerability and loneliness and the pair developed a sexual relationship.

He asked her for more than £30,000, and claimed he needed it for a new car and a dialysis machine for his younger brother who he said had a kidney problem.

Field created the impression Mr Farquhar had drunk himself to death but instead it was found Field had suffocated him.

Ms Moore-Martin had a seizure in 2017 and was hospitalised. She confided in her niece about her relationship, police started an investigation and linked Field to Mr Farquhar and Ms Moore-Martin.

A second post-mortem examination was carried out on Mr Farquar’s body when he was exhumed and police then arrested him.

Before she died of natural causes in 2017, Ms Moore-Martin managed to reverse her will to benefit her family.

But Field was named as the main beneficiary in Mr Farquhar’s will which gave him life interest in his house and half share in the property with Mr Farquhar’s brother Ian.

Field used the share to buy his flat in Towcester, Northamptonshire.

Kathryn Curtis from the Crown Prosecution Service said Field would ‘no longer profit from his cruel actions’.
