Mum asks internet for advice after son’s new ‘friends’ share names of dead children

0 46

Kids say the strangest things, but every now and then a story comes along about a child’s brush with the supernatural.

A mum has taken to the internet for advice after her four-year-old son told her about his two new friends, who happen to share the names of children she knew who had died. But if her story wasn’t enough to give you goosebumps, wait until you read some of the comments

The woman, who called herself thornedale7, took to Reddit’s Parenting thread to write a post under the heading “Something freaky happened”.

The woman explained that she was sitting on the couch, scrolling through her phone, when her four-year-old son came rushing into the room and exclaimed, “Mummy! Mummy! I made two new friends!”

“I smiled and said, ‘That’s great sweetie!’, thinking he had made up imaginary friends. He grinned and said, ‘Yeah. Their names are Abby and Luke.

The woman said she ‘freaked out’ because ‘Abby’ was the name of her best friend (and fiancé’s sister’s) daughter who died almost eight years ago, while ‘Luke’ was the name she was planning to give to her three-month-old daughter’s twin, but she miscarried.

“I never told my kids about Abby. I did tell them that their little sister Emery was supposed to have a twin brother, but he passed away. I never told them he was going to be named Luke.”

The woman continues, “He said, ‘Abby died because she got hit by a car’, which is how the real Abby died! And that Luke had a twin sister, but he never got to see the rest of his family!

“This is scary and I’m shaking. I’m sorry if this is the wrong Reddit page for it but it’s super freaky.

“Has something like this ever happened with any of your kids? PS Nothing like this has happened with any of my kids before.”

Reddit users rushed to comment, with many sharing their own experiences.

“My husband took my daughter with him when he visited his parents’ graves. I think she was three at the time. When they were leaving, she waved and said ‘Bye Brady’. She insisted she had met a little boy and he was sitting in a far section of the cemetery… which is where my husband’s stillborn nephew Brady is buried,” she said, adding he had died 15 years before she was born and no one had mentioned him to her.

Said another, “My kid had just turned three. We’re sitting in the dark, I have all the lights off to signal that it’s bedtime and he’s quietly playing with a toy. He stops and looks across the hall into my bedroom for a minute then he says, ‘Mummy, something’s watching me’.”

Another wrote, “When we moved to our house, our then three-year-old ‘met’ a new imaginary friend, who was an old lady with four children. ‘And guess what! She used to live right here’!” The person added they had bought the house from four siblings after their mother died, who had lived there 50 years.

“My son is two and since he learned to talk he will sometimes just stop, look at a wall or something, then tell me ‘Papa’s here’! and start waving. He’s never called his dad or grandfathers papa, and it’s not a word my husband and I use at all. However, I used to call my grandfather ‘Papa’. So now I’m convinced my grandfather has been dropping by of visits and it’s been oddly reassuring,” said another.

“When my daughter was born my friend brought her three-year-old over [who] kept whispering to someone, laughing, etc. He said ‘I’m playing with Mark. This is Mark’s house’. Years later, my daughter kept pointing, saying ‘Ghost. I scared’,” another person recalled.

“Over the next two years she would bring him up weekly,” she said, adding her daughter would describe a little boy, with ‘boo-boos’ on his arms.

“Eventually I asked if she knew his name and she said ‘Mark’. Then we got new neighbours with a little boy the similar age. The kids would play almost daily. One day the mum called me at work in a panic because he son was playing with someone she could not see and getting frustrated. He told her ‘The boy wants to play ball with me, but he can’t, he doesn’t have hands’.”

The woman said she later went to a psychic, who told her the “boy with no hands in the house” was harmless, and had died a very long time ago, and was lonely.

But perhaps the freakiest comment was made by CapK473, who wrote, “My dad gave us a toddler wooden rocking chair for my 2½-year-old. When it rocks it plays a tune on these bells beneath the seat. I’m putting her to bed one night and the lights are all off. I hear her say ‘Stooooooop iiiit!’.

“I notice her hands are covering her ears. I asked her what was wrong and she tells me ‘The boy won’t stop talking’. I asked, ‘What boy?’ and she says ‘The boy in the chair’. The next day my daughter comes screaming out of her room [and says] there’s a boy behind the curtains.”

The woman said when she told her husband what happened the day before he hauled the chair out of the house “faster than the speed of light and said if her parents didn’t get it he would burn it.”
