Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShop shutdown – Last chance to grab digital 3DS and Wii U games | Gaming | Entertainment

If you’ve got money spare and want to pick up some classic games, then you might want to pay a visit to the Nintendo eShop. Nintendo is shutting down the 3DS and Wii U eShop stores on March 27, meaning you only have one week left to purchase games digitally for both platforms. This includes post-release DLC, so make sure you purchase any expansions for games you already own.

The news was announced by Nintendo: “As of 27 March 2023, it will no longer be possible to make purchases on Nintendo eShop for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

“It will also no longer be possible to download free content, including game demos. Furthermore, as this date draws closer, related services will cease to function.”

Nintendo eShop Gift Cards have already been disabled for the 3DS and Wii U, although you can still redeem codes for specific games.

“We recommend all consumers to use any funds in their Nintendo 3DS and/or Wii U Nintendo eShop balance before the ability to purchase content ends on Monday 27 March 2023,” Nintendo adds.

To coincide with the closure of the 3DS and Wii U storefronts, some publishers have reduced the price of their games.

For example, Shovel Knight Treasure Trove is currently available for just £4.04 on 3DS.

Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner – Soul Hackers are reduced to £3.59, while Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker is just £3.49.

Elsewhere, Retro City Rampage is down to £2.39, Shakedown: Hawaii is £4.04, and Steamworld Dig is just £1.39.

Sadly, however, it doesn’t look like Nintendo first-party games are on sale.

Indeed, 3DS games like Metroid: Samus Returns, Pokemon X/Y, and New Super Mario Bros 2 are still being sold for £39.99.

The Nintendo 3DS re-release of Luigi’s Mansion is £34.99, which is the same price as WarioWare Gold and Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn.

It’s not much better on the Wii U eShop, where many titles are still being sold for £49.99.

Fingers crossed Nintendo holds a last-minute weekend sale this week, because physical copies of select Wii U and 3DS games are about to become very expensive.
