Olivia Pratt-Korbel’s devastated father has said ‘no words could express the pain’ his family is going through after the nine-year-old was shot dead in a tragedy that shocked the UK.

John Francis Pratt has paid tribute to his daughter, remembering her as ‘a bright spark’ who could be ‘a proper wind-up merchant’.

He has warned her death ‘cannot be in vain’ and pleaded with anyone holding onto evidence to come forward so Olivia’s killer can be put behind bars.

A new video has been released of the schoolgirl smiling and clutching her dad’s arm as they enjoyed a ride at a Christmas market in happier times.

It comes as a man, 34, from Liverpool is arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

He remains in custody after police were granted an extension to continue questioning him.

In the statement released with his wider family, Mr Pratt said: ‘Words can’t express the pain we are going through after Olivia was so cruelly snatched away from us. Those responsible need to know what they have done.

‘Olivia was a real bright spark who knew her own mind, had no problem making friends (she would talk to anyone) and loved to laugh and make people laugh.

‘She could be a proper wind-up merchant and loved to wind her nieces up, particularly those who were older than her and when they didn’t like it she’d just laugh and say “don’t forget I’m your aunty”.’

He went on to say his child’s future was ‘cruelly snatched away from her’ and her loved ones had been ‘deprived of a real light in our lives’.

Thanking the public for the ‘exceptional response’ to police appeals, Mr Pratt asked anyone who still has information to hand it over to police.

Another child ‘cannot lose their life in such horrendous circumstances’, the family has warned.

The statement continued: ‘Olivia’s death cannot be in vain and we want people to feel safe and be safe, that can only happen if we all come together and make sure there is no place for guns, or those who use guns on our streets or in our communities.

‘If you have information make sure you tell the police and if you don’t feel able to do that give the information to Crimestoppers anonymously so action can be taken.

‘If you can’t do it for yourself, do it in Olivia’s name and for children across Merseyside who deserve to enjoy their lives to the full.’

Olivia was shot in Liverpool when a gunman chased convicted burglar Joseph Nee into her home on August 22.

Her mum Cheryl, who tried to stop the men from bursting in, was also injured in the attack.

Three other men have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Merseyside Police said: ‘The investigation into Olivia’s tragic murder is ongoing and we still need to build up a strong evidential picture so that we can bring those responsible to justice.’
