Three pedestrians have died in separate incidents on Friday, prompting police to urge caution among road users as the long weekend gets under way.
Emergency services were called to Sunflower Drive in Claremont Meadows, in Sydney’s west, just after 6pm to reports that an elderly man had been struck by a vehicle.
“The 80-year-old man was treated at the scene by witnesses and NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, could not be revived,” NSW Police said in a statement on Saturday morning.
The 24-year-old driver of the Daihatsu sedan was taken to Nepean Hospital for mandatory testing, while specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit will investigate the scene.
Just 45 minutes later, police were called to another scene 11 kilometres down the road at Castlereagh Road in Penrith following reports a man had been struck by a Mazda BT-50 ute.
“The 32-year-old man was treated at the scene by witnesses, police and NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, could not be revived,” police said.
The ute’s 43-year-old driver was also taken to Nepean Hospital for mandatory testing.
“Officers from Nepean Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced and investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
In the state’s Southern Tablelands, police were called to the Barton Highway near Murrumbateman around 6.30pm to reports that an elderly woman had been struck by a Mitsubishi Triton.
