The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have received a sweet gift for their children during a visit to Germany.

Prince Harry and Meghan were presented with two jerseys from Team Germany, featuring their names Archie and Lilibet.

The blue shirts had the numbers 19 for Archie and 21 for Lilibet, representing the years of their births, 2019 and 2021.

Archie, three, and Lili, one, have not joined their parents for the whirlwind visit to Germany and the UK this week.

The couple appeared delighted to receive the gifts as they attended the one-year countdown event to the 2023 Invictus Games in Düsseldorf.

They met with athletes and dignitaries at a reception, their attendance proving a huge boost to next year’s tournament for sick and wounded military veterans.

The Invictus Games was created by Prince Harry in 2014 and remains one of his key patronages.

Speaking at a media conference in the city, Prince Harry opened with a few words of German before wiping his brow to mock relief, adding “That’s about where it stops”.

He then jokingly asked whether the beer in Dusseldorf was better than in Cologne, to affirmative claps from the audience.

Prince Harry said he was “filled with such excitement” at the thought of the next Invictus Games having the backdrop of the River Rhine.

“It is my absolute honour, along with my wife, to invite the people of Germany to officially start the countdown to next September,” the duke said.

“I can’t wait to hear the roar of the crowds, to feel the adrenalin of the competition and join in on the laughter and even the tears, happy ones of course, while we get to witness lives being changed right before our eyes.”

He added: “In our most vulnerable moments, encouragement is essential.

“So, I ask that we all do our part to provide space for these incredible servicemen and women to be honest, courageous and true to themselves.”

Prince Harry did not take any questions from the journalists at the media conference.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were given a red carpet reception and huge welcome as they went on a walkabout in the afternoon sun soon soon after arriving in the city.

Meghan was seen taking selfies with the crowds before she and Harry went on a scenic cruise along the Rhine.

They were joined by Invictus competitors and their family and friends for the cruise.

Their short visit to Germany came one day after appearing at the One Young World summit in Manchester.

They are now back in the UK where there are rumours the couple could visit the Queen at Balmoral Castle on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Prince Harry and Meghan will attend the WellChild Awards in London, which were an important part of their life as working royals.

They attended the awards in 2018 and 2019, which celebrates the inspirational qualities of the UK’s seriously ill children and young people, along with those who go that extra mile to make a difference to their lives.

The duke has been a patron of WellChild since 2007 and it is one of a few patronages he was able to retain after stepping back as a senior working royal in 2020.
