Public support for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has dropped drastically hours out from their arrival in the UK for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Two separate polls show Prince Harry and Meghan have fallen further out of favour with the British public after stepping back from their roles as senior working royals in March 2020.

A survey by JL Partners found just 27 per cent of British adults had a positive opinion of Prince Harry while just 22 per cent thought well of his wife Meghan.

Another poll by YouGov found the couple’s favourability is at an all time low, with almost two thirds holding a negative view of them.

According to the YouGov data one in three – or 32 per cent – see the duke in a positive light compared to more than half, 58 per cent, who think of him negatively.

His net score has dropped by one place to -26 compared to -25 from the previous survey in March.

Meghan’s net favourability also plunged, from -39 to -42. Just 23 per cent of the public hold a positive outlook on the duchess while two in three, or 63 per cent, have a negative view.

Those responding to the JL Partners were asked what words they would choose to describe members of the royal family.

Harry’s popular descriptions included “idiot”, “stupid”, “spoilt” and “ginger”.

Meghan was described as “manipulative”, “American” and “actress”.

Prince Andrew scored even lower than the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in both polls.

The Queen, however, had a 75 per cent approval rating in the JL Partners survey.

In the YouGov poll, eight in 10 Britons held a positive opinion of the monarch.

Three in five young people aged 18-24 held the Queen in high regard.

When it came to looking to the future, 77 per cent of those who responded to the YouGov poll said Prince William would make a good king, compared to just 57 per cent for Prince Charles.

The future of the monarchy will be on show at Trooping the Colour tomorrow when the Queen appears on the balcony of Buckingham Palace with her three heirs.

The Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge and Prince George are expected to join Her Majesty to watch the flypast celebrating her official birthday and Platinum Jubilee.

But Prince Harry and Meghan, who are no longer working royals, will be excluded from the balcony spectacle along with Prince Andrew.

Harry and Meghan are expected to join the Queen for a Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral on Friday and could appear at the Platinum Party at the Palace on Saturday night.

During the say they are rumoured to be hosting a first birthday party for their daughter Lilibet at Frogmore Cottage, but Prince William and Kate are said to be avoiding the gathering.

The Queen, however, could meet her great-grandchild for the first time on June 4 after cancelling her appearance at the Epsom Derby racecourse due to mobility issues.

Prince Charles, too, is yet to meet Lilibet.
