Queen Elizabeth will reportedly hold a joint party for Prince William and Kate Middleton to celebrate their 40th birthdays.

The Duke of Cambridge turns 40 today, while his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, turned 40 in January but missed out on a proper celebration due to surging COVID-19 cases.

Her Majesty is said to be planning a celebration for the duo at Windsor Castle, with royal expert Russell Myers telling Today, “The Queen has agreed to throw him a big party as part of royal tradition.” Watch the clip above.

According to The Sun the 96-year-old monarch, who has recently suffered from mobility issues, is anticipated to be at the event but will not confirm her attendance until the day of the party.

Senior royals, including Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, are expected to be in attendance.

Prince William has previously shared birthday celebrations with other members of the royal family.

For his 18th, William shared his party with Prince Andrew’s 40th, Prince, Princess Anne’s 50th and Princess Margaret’s 70th.

This year is the first year the Union Flag will not be flown for William’s birthday.

The British government recently confirmed the honour – typically given to working royals – would only be reserved for the Queen and Prince Charles going forward.

There is speculation the move was made in the wake of the Jeffrey Epstein scandal Prince Andrew became embroiled in.

Earlier this year, a number of government councils reportedly decided not to fly the Union Flag on the disgraced prince’s birthday because of his association with the late financier and his lawsuit with Virginia Roberts, which has been settled.

A source told the publication that the move was “so as not to upset Andrew, who is decidedly prickly on these sorts of matters”.

Another source added, “It is widely considered to have happened to avoid embarrassment for Andrew.”
