“He showed everyone last week what he can do when he’s fit and ready,” Staggs said. “He’s probably one of the best centres in the comp at the moment.

“We’re different players at the end of the day, he can do stuff I can’t do, and I can do stuff he can’t do, but when he does something good on the field I want to match what he does.”

Come Sunday’s kick-off, the clash between the two sides’ centre pairing looms as just one of the key head-to-head battles across the park.

Penrith’s New South Wales star Stephen Crichton typically lines up on the left, though he and Izack Tago swapped places last week in their triumph over Melbourne.

While Staggs declared he was unfazed by whom he would be taking on, Farnworth was adamant coming up against Crichton would be as close to taking on the perfect rival as he could expect.

The 23-year-old said despite the way Tago was stood up by Storm wrecking ball Justin Olam, having been kept to just two games since Round 20 by pectoral and hamstring injuries, he would not be considered a target of the Broncos.

“He’s a quality player, so we can’t really give you too much on the game plan, but it will be a good match,” Farnworth said.

“(Crichton) hasn’t really got any flaws in his game – he’s a big strong boy, a big athlete. He’s fast, strong, good in D, good in the air, so he’s a quality player.

“But I’m not sure if I’m playing him or Tago on the weekend, but it doesn’t really change my job. He swapped last week, so I don’t know – we’ll see.”
