Social media, worst nightmare of politicians — I Go Dye

0 36

A popular comedian, Francis Agoda, aka I Go Dye, is of the opinion that social media has become the worst nightmare of many Nigerian politicians.

In an interview with Sunday Scoop, he said, “Social media has influenced the political aspects of our lives more than ever before. The last presidential election lends credence to that fact. Initially, the political class felt it was just people tweeting and hiding behind keyboards as faceless entities. But, as the election drew nearer, it became their worst nightmare, giving birth to the ‘Obidient’ movement.”

On the biggest lessons he had learnt in the course of his career, the funnyman said, “I have learnt many lessons, because all our existence deals with lessons. However, in my journey as an entertainer, I have come to realise that no glory last forever. Hence, there should be no competition in anything in life. As the spotlight fades away after very performance, that is the same fate that awaits everyone in the industry. We must be humble in all we do.”

Revealing how he uses humour to address political issues, he said, “The truth in any issue is what makes it humorous. When one contrasts the fact from the reality, it becomes funny to the mind. The political reality before us shows a deliberate manipulation of the truth, and once it’s revealed in a comic sense, the mind responds with laughter.”

The comedian also stated that his forthcoming Europe tour was part of his 27th anniversary as a comedian.
