The Rings of Power’ Super Bowl Trailer

0 70

Prime Video shared the first look at their series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power at the 2022 Super Bowl on Sunday.

The show, which is based on the appendices written by J.R.R. Tolkien, is set thousands of years before the events of The Lord of the Rings trilogy and depicts the events of the Third Age of Middle Earth.

The trailer teased what is to come in the ambitious fantasy series, and here are all the key moments from it.

Galadriel Crossing the Helcaraxë

The most prominent figure to appear in the trailer is Galadriel, now played by Morfydd Clark, and her perilous journey across Middle Earth.

In one dramatic scene Galadriel is shown crossing the Helcaraxë, an icy wasteland that is situated between Middle Earth and the lands of Aman.

The brief moment shows the future Lady of Lothlórien scaling an icy cliff while clad in chain mail with nothing but a dagger to keep her from falling into a chasm below.

Galadriel is also shown riding into battle on horseback and, in a different scene, trying to survive on a raft alongside human Halbrand (Charlie Vickers).

Elrond

Another character who originally appeared in The Lord of the Rings trilogy that is making a return in Prime Video’s series is Elrond (played by Robert Aramayo).

The elf, who will go on to found the refuge of Rivendell, was shown very briefly in the teaser trailer with an exasperated expression on his face.

The Harfoots

Hobbits were not around during the Second Age of Middle Earth, at least, not in the way that we know them, as the trailer revealed.

Harfoots are the ancestors of Hobbits, and one such character played by Markella Kavenagh is shown in the teaser clip.

Mirroring what Bilbo and Frodo Baggins have said before her, she said: “Haven’t you ever wondered what else is out there? There’s wonders in this world beyond our wandering. I can feel it!”

Arondir

Ismael Cruz Córdova was also seen in the trailer in his role of Arondir, a Silvan elf who—in a rather epic scene—catches an arrow mid-air with his bare hands.

Showing off the character’s skills with archery, Arondir then sends the arrow back.

The Silvan elves are also known as woodland elves and many of them lived either in Lothlórien or the Woodland Realm in Tolkien’s novels.

Prince Durin IV and Disa, princess of Khazad-dûm

The dwarves of Middle Earth are also featured in the trailer as Prince Durin IV (Owain Arthur) and Disa (Sophia Nomvete), the princess of Khazad-dûm, appear.

While they weren’t given speaking roles in the trailer, Disa was shown singing to the heavens in one scene, and Prince Durin IV looked forlorn in another.

Númenor

The opening scene of the trailer teased the island nation of Númenor, the kingdom of men that was first established during the Second Age of Middle Earth.

It is in Númenor that Sauron tricked the Elven smiths of Eregion to forge the One Ring for him.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will launch on Prime Video on Friday, September 2, 2022.
