Tony Bellew sticks up for Conor Benn after picture of his physique circulates on social media, though it’s unclear whether photo is new or not

Tony Bellew has stuck up for Conor Benn amid a new social media row over his physique.

Back in October, the 26-year-old’s planned fight with Chris Eubank Jr was called off after he registered two positive drugs tests for clomifene.

A picture has now emerged and is circulating on Twitter which shows Benn with a drastically different body shape, allegedly in the wake of his positive tests.

In the image, he is noticeably less muscular than he would be when training.

However, it’s unclear whether this is even a new photo to begin with.

The source of the picture has not been made clear and it may well be the case that this was taken several months or years ago when Benn was not even in training camp – hence the difference in his physique.

Either way, Bellew has come to his defence.

Promoter Richard Poxon tweeted the picture of Benn on Friday.

Poxon added the caption: “Looks like the lad has decided to REALLY lean down and replace speed for power.”

To which Bellew replied: “You mean looks like a lad who’s not training for a fight? I wish I would of looked like that when I was fighting tbh!”

As things stand, Benn’s situation is shrouded in uncertainty with UKAD and the WBC both understood to be carrying out separate investigations into his positive tests.

The WBC have confirmed that they are planning to resolve their case this month, while UKAD remain silent on their proceedings.
