“In this large prospective cohort study in the U.K., we found J-shaped associations between coffee consumption and risk of incident depression and anxiety, with the lowest risk for both depression and anxiety at around 2–3 cups of coffee per day,” the study said.
Consuming two to three cups of instant coffee a day can reduce depression, but not anxiety, the study said.
“Our findings support the recommendation that moderate coffee consumption could be part of a healthy lifestyle to prevent and manage depression and anxiety in the general population,” the study says.
