Reprising the role of Beena Tripathi comes with its set of expectations. After all, the character played an integral role in changing the power dynamics in the second season of Mirzapur. Rasika Dugal, who recently wrapped up her portions in Mirzapur 3 is unperturbed by the pressure. “[I can only] do so much as an actor. I can up my game as much as the writing [team] ups theirs,” says the actor. Violent killings, shifting loyalties, and shocking twists are a staple in the Amazon Prime Video gangster drama, also starring Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Shweta Tripathi Sharma. Does she think that the writers have upped the ante, this time around? “They have definitely maintained [the level]. I don’t know about raising it, because it is difficult to gauge that while I am working on the project. I have no clarity [about the material when I am shooting].”

Over the last two seasons, Dugal’s character Beena’s growth has been stupendous and surprising in equal measure. Sharp and manipulative, she is shown as a woman who exercises her agency and comes out on top in the male-dominated world of the series. Dugal has a certain barometer to recognise her character’s impact on her. “My only [way to] measure [her impact] is whether the scene stays with me over the next few days. [This time around], I remember a particular scene that I shot over a day. Even two-three days after having filmed it, I kept thinking about it. It left a mark on me, even though it was a small scene.”
