Two Bay Area locations of grocery store chain Sprouts Farmers Market will close on June 3, the Mercury News reported.

The grocer’s Fremont store at 3900 Mowry Ave. and its Mountain View store at 630 San Antonio Road are shutting their doors after close to a decade. Sprouts did not give a specific reason for the closures. However, these two Sprouts locations have seen growing competition from other grocery stores since they first opened. Both the Fremont and Mountain View locations have a Safeway, Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s all within a half-mile radius of them.

“Choosing to close a store, and in this case two stores, is always a difficult decision,” Dustin Hamilton, a regional vice president for Sprouts, told the Mercury News in a statement. “However, we’ve reached the end of our lease with both property owners, and with the proximity of our nearby stores, we made the decision to close these locations.”

Hamilton also told the Mercury News that the company is working to transition its team members at the two closing locations to other Sprouts locations. Despite these closures, Sprouts told the Mercury News in a statement that they will still move forward with plans to open “approximately 15-20 stores this year.”

Meanwhile, both of the soon-to-be vacant Sprouts locations will most likely be replaced with new grocery stores — in fact, the Fremont space is close to officially signing a lease with a new grocer already. Sprouts also still has nearly 20 other locations across the Bay Area.
