WA is in the running for a new iron ore downstream processing plant after Chris Ellison’s Mineral Resources pumped nearly $30 million into a British company that could help decarbonise the steel industry.

Under a deal announced in Britain on Thursday, MinRes is investing $US17.5 million ($27m) in the privately-owned Binding Solutions to help fund a demonstration plant that will test the production of iron ore pellets using patented technology that is said to dramatically reduce energy usage and emissions.
