The new Six Senses resort will offer guests spectacular wildlife and scenery viewing given its location on the banks of the Zambezi River within Victoria Falls National Park. Up on stilts at tree level, you’ll be able to sit out on your vast deck and watch wildlife like elephants bathing in the waters below you, perhaps with antelopes and even predators like lions wandering by to check out the scene.
The planned resort will have at least 22 individual lodges with private terraces as well as another 15 with suspended pools and perhaps an additional 17 pool villas. They’ll be connected to the restaurant and other facilities safely above the animals via bridges and raised walkways. Of course you’ll be able to get rejuvenating treatments at the onsite Six Senses’ signature spa. A yoga deck, panoramic sauna plus outdoor hot pools are also planned.

For the project, Six Senses is working with Worth International, SIP Project Managers, DSA Architects International and CKR Consultant Engineers. The aim is for the resort’s environmental footprint to be light—as much as possible will be fabricated off-site to minimize construction work in the park—while ensuring that the buildings can withstand “a heavy knock from a passing elephant,” as described in a press release. It’s Six Senses first project in sub-Saharan Africa.

Victoria Falls
Called Mosi-oa Tunya, meaning “the smoke that thunders,” by the Kololo people, Victoria Falls is the spectacular set of waterfalls on the Zambezi River at the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. UNESCO calls it “the largest curtain of falling water in the world”—it’s twice the height and width of Niagara Falls.

Wildlife that favors the grasslands and forests of fig, ebony, acacia and teak include elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, white rhinos, and antelopes like eland, klipspringer, impala, and waterbuck plus predators like lions, leopards and wild dogs; hippos and Nile crocodiles are in the waters near the falls. Avian life includes African paradise flycatchers, hornbills and Goliath herons.
