BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Woodrow Wilson High School closed at 12:45 p.m. on Monday, May 9, 2022. Raleigh County School Superintendent David Price announced the closure is due to a burst water pipe in the cafeteria.

When Woodrow Wilson High School students went to lunch on Monday, May 9, 2022, they got something, not on the menu. Students were in the cafeteria when they heard a crash. Then another. Then another.
Hot water began to gush from the ceiling, sending students and teachers running for cover.
“We had a pipe that ruptured today in the cafeteria at Woodrow in the HVAC. We’re investigating it right now, but it will take some repair. Fortunately, we did not have any students who were injured from any of the hot water that came from it but you know we’re very fortunate and blessed there,” said David Price, Raleigh County Schools Superintendent.
While Woodrow Wilson High School cafeteria is the official polling place for two precincts, the Raleigh County Clerk’s Office said there is no reason for those voters to worry.
“They were voting in the cafeteria but they’ve had a disaster over there in the cafeteria and so they will be moving to the gym. So polling locations will still be set up in there, just like normal, except it’s not the cafeteria, it will be at the gym, so you’ll have to go on down a little further. They should have signs up as to which door to use,” said Tammy RIchardson, Raleigh County Chief Elections officer.
Superintendent Price said election day gave the staff an extra day to clean up.
